Fritillaria 'Meleagris'

Fritillaria Meleagris, or Snake's Head Fritillary - its original English name, has purplish bells with checkerboard markings reminiscent of snakeskin.  This captivating variety thrives in moist well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.  It looks well in informal areas of the garden or in lightly grassed woodland glades but can also be grown in containers.  This versatile plant has been recognised with the 'RHS Award of Garden Merit'.
